Janet Tatenda Bhila is young woman leader, passion driven advocate, with a special focus on marginalised children, adolescents and young people on issues around sexual reproductive health and rights, holistic HIV treatment and meaningful involvement and participation in different spaces. She holds a BSc in Psychology, graduated in 2017. Janet has been a volunteer in HIV response since 2006. In 2006 she joined Youth for a child in Christ as a kids’ club leader, Janet then graduated to be a field officer in 2010 under the same organisation, also in 2010 she became a board secretary for the International Community of Women Living with HIV in Zimbabwe. Janet became a mentee in 2011 as she enrolled in the young women’s leadership training facilitated by SAFAIDS, recognising her skills, strength and character in SRHR. SAFAIDS was able to offer Janet an internship in the programmes department, as an assistant programmes officer for Young4Real and Score programmes from 2013 to 2015 at recognisable intervals. She is a public speaker, communicator, team player and stands for the justice and well-being of children and adolescents as well as young people. Janet is currently also an ALL IN representative for adolescents under UNAIDS, and she also is a member of the Y+ Board and International HIV Alliance Board.
Janet is currently an employee at Africaid Zvandiri as a Mentor to Community Adolescent Treatment Supporters known as CATS. Janet’s first international presentation was at the IAS of 2014, Australia and has, since then been a voice of the voiceless at National, regional and international forums. Her goal is to do all it takes, for the under privileged children, adolescents and young people to have their rights recognised and exercised while they lead healthy, safe, happy and fulfilled lives.
